Do you want to take your kitchen garden to the next level? This weekend course will give you practical and theoretical knowledge about soil health, composting, interplanting, and plant care. All you need for a garden with strong, healthy plants - without the use of chemicals! 


This comprehensive program (In Indre Fosen, Norway) is designed to equip participants with the knowledge to set up their gardens and the practical skills needed for less food reliance.





Course Objectives:


Soil health and compost

  • Understand how to build a living soil with a rich micro-life, and different ways of composting to improve the soil.


The many ways to fertilize

  • From animal manure and green manure to compost tea and fertilizer water.


Weeds and indicator plants

  • Learn about interpreting soil composition based on the current growing plant species.


No-dig cultivation

  • Discover soil management methods that preserve microbial life, produce fewer weeds, and increase fertility.


Plant health techniques

  • Learn how to care for your plants to prevent disease and pests.


Interplanting

  • Dive into co-planting different species for better growth, fewer pests, and a consistent crop throughout the season.


Two garden visits

  • Seeing different compost and fertilizer solutions.



Course Structure:


The course is suitable for everyone, whether you are a beginner or have experience with cultivation. It's the follow up of the permaculture design course in March. We have planned theory courses, group activities, and discussions inside and practical tasks outside.


Each course will also include small excursions to other garden with different geography and climate.

Typical course day:


7:45 - 8:15 Breakfast

8:30 - 11:30 Course content

11:30 - 13:00 Joint lunch (food preparation by the group and teacher)

13:00 - 16:00 Course content

17:00 Joint dinner (food preparation by the group and teacher)


Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included on Saturday. You will have Breakfast and Lunch on Sunday:)



Location:


The course participants will stay together in the farm Bed&Breakfast of Heggli Gård.

Heggli Gård is a simple but authentic stay, right in the mountains. The rooms cover all necessities but are not luxurious :)




Arrival:

By car:

Enter the address Helsetveien 140, Stadsbygd in Google Maps/GPS, and you will find the course location! If you are coming from the Trondheim side of the fjord, you must factor in a ferry trip with the Flakk-Rørvik connection.


By plane:

From Trondheim airport (TRD, Værnes) take the train or airport bus to the central station. Walk over to the speedboat terminal and take the boat to Vanvikan. We can pick you up at the speedboat terminal.

Language:

The course language will be Norwegian but both Teachers speak Norwegian as well as English. Individual questions can always be answered in your preferred language.



Booking:

! To book your spot you will have to pay a 2500 NOK deposit. The rest will have to be paid 2 weeks before the beginning of the course. If the minimum requirement of 6 participants isn't met, we will refund the deposit :)


You can book the course without an overnight stay as well. The price without bed and breakfast (including lunch and dinner) is 5000 NOK, you can choose it at the checkout.
